3 Reasons to Have a Mentor
Do we need a Mentor?I have learned many skills over the course of my life. Riding a bike is something I learned from my father. But I would not call my dad a mentor for that. That wasn’t until later when I became an apprentice to him in his masonry business in the small German town in which I grew up.First I was to observe him, to see and study how he was putting his skills into action. Then, after having done that, I was allowed to make my first steps as a mason under his supervision and his critique. Three years later, after passing a written and practical test, I became a journeyman. Becoming a Master was another 10 years away. That is the traditional setup in the old world practice of apprenticeship. There is so much to learn for all of us. It could be simply something we have an interest in, something we want to become better at, or something we want to excel in.A mentor can help us to accomplish that. For some of us, it is necessity. Our business is not running as smoothly as it could (and we know it, even though we might not admit to it!). Our life and relationships are stressful, we are fatigued, out of shape and our health is deteriorating.A mentor can help us with that too.For those of us who have climbed the ladder of success and reached the top, who are acknowledged leaders, a Mentor can help us find out and steer us to what is next for us.3 Reasons to Have a Mentor:
